The international day of struggle against sexual violence in the conditions of the conflict appeared in the calendar of the United Nations and WHO more recently - June 19, 2015. This day was founded to raise awareness of the need to put an end to sexual violence associated with the conflict, the reverence of victims of sexual violence and survivors everywhere in the world. Of particular concern is the use of sexual violence as a tactic of warfare and an obstacle to building peace.

Sexual violence in conflict situations includes:.

- rape;.

- abduction of girls and women;.

- trade in girls and women;.

- sexual slavery;.

- forced marriages.

In 11 countries of the world, women are still in an extremely serious situation because of constant military conflicts, with absolutely no rights and protection from the state. But even if there are laws and rights in the country, when war breaks out, women become victims of male tyranny and violence.

The negative experience of Ukraine and the high level of violence of the female population in the areas of military operations show that during the war "laws are not written" for anyone. Up to 80% of women are forced to leave their homes during the period of hostilities.

I will give some statistics on North America, where there are no military conflicts.

- Only in 60% of cases of rape the victims turn to the police;.

- Only in 1-2% of violence during a visit are reported to the police;.

- 1 woman out of 4 in North America is sexually assaulted at least once in her life;.

- 11% of women are physically injured in sexual violence;.

- 60% of victims of sexual violence under the age of 17;.

- half of the sexual abusers are married or have a long lasting relationship with someone else;.

- in 1 case out of 5 weapons are used to force sexual contact.

In the context of a military conflict, these figures go off significantly. In a number of countries where war is still going on, more than 60% of women in the military zone are subjected to rape and other forms of violence. Exact data do not exist, because many women are killed after rape, and those who manage to escape are afraid to talk about this tragic past.

I would very much like the UN, WHO and other important international organizations to be active not only against sexual violence in conflict situations, defending the rights of African and Latin American women, but also pay attention to the situation of women who have passed and are still passing through the military conflict in Ukraine.

In order for this "miracle" to happen, it is necessary that the Ukrainian public be interested in the discussion of these problems publicly through the mass media and at the state level. I would like to see in Ukraine more organizations that support victims of sexual violence, including at home and the conditions of marriage.
