Now 90.6% of Ukrainians consider themselves to be Ukrainians by nationality.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey of major sociological centers (KIIS, Rating, SOCIS, the Razumkov Center), writes ZN. UA.
As for Russians, 6.3% of citizens consider themselves to be themselves, and representatives of other nationalities are 2.7%.
At the same time, most often Ukrainian national identity is declared by young people aged 18 to 24 years.
Moreover, according to the survey, the number of people who declared the Ukrainian national identity radically increased. Thus, the censuses of 1989 and 2001 testified to the residence in the country of 72.7 and 77.8%, respectively of Ukrainians, 22.1 and 17.3% of Russians and 5.2 and 4.9% of other nationalities.
It is noted that the current national structure of the population of Ukraine was significantly affected by the annexation of the Crimea and the occupation of a significant part of the Donbass, regions with a traditionally high percentage of ethnic Russians and representatives of other national groups. Nevertheless, a sharp decrease in the number of people who this year declared a Russian or other national identity occurred not only due to the occupation of ethnically non-Ukrainian territories, since not only Russians but also many Ukrainians remained in the occupied territories.
