The head of Ukravtodor, Slavomir Novak, at a meeting of the Cabinet on June 14 proposed to reduce the maximum speed of traffic in cities to 50 km / h.
He said this on Wednesday, delivering a report on road safety, Inforesist.
"It's time to start talking about increasing fines for speed and speed reduction in cities from 60 km / h to 50 km / h. This is a normal European standard, "said Novak, who in 2011-2013 led the Polish Ministry of Transport.
Novak claims that such a 90% reduction increases the chance of survival for a pedestrian who will be hit by a car.
Now the traffic rules provide for the maximum speed in settlements of 60 km / h. On certain sections of roads, in coordination with the National Police, the permitted speed can be increased. This is done, for example, on some highways in Kiev.
As reported by the "Observer" to fix the situation with accidents on Ukrainian roads, in September of this year, the first traffic police will come on duty, which will replace the disbanded traffic police.
