With the 22-year-old Volodya Babiy we met in Lutsk at the opening of the exhibition of portraits of women with oncodiagnoses "Without rose-colored glasses", where he came to support the local participant. It turned out that the guy is also treated for cancer and most recently he was considered hopelessly sick. The history of Volodya strikes to the depth of one's soul.

Volodya Babiy was born and raised in the village of Peregonovka in the Golovanevsky district of the Kirovograd region. At the age of 13 I moved to Poltava, entered the vocational school as a locksmith-mechanic of assembly work. After graduation he worked in Kiev, Kirovograd, Poltava. And at the age of 20 he volunteered for the war.

- My friends at that time were not the best at the time - half were basting, the second half was thumping, and I realized that I was waiting for the same thing if I talked to them further. On TV, I saw that there was a war in the country, the peasants perish every day, and our authorities do nothing. I looked at it all and thought - how I'm worse or better than these guys, because I'm the same. And since there was such a situation that there was a war in the country, I had to go there. Not for the sake of the new government, but for the sake of those people who are at the front. And at the age of 20 I volunteered at ATU.

Volodya's company was not enthusiastic in the family, mother lamented: "How could you abandon us, who will help us now?" The fact is that he grew up in a large family and was the oldest of the two brothers, the youngest at the time was ten. But this guy did not stop. In the army they paid a salary, and it was possible to help the family a little with money. Vovchik served in the 54th Brigade, the Third Tank Battalion, a separate reconnaissance platoon, who was seconded to the 25th Battalion. And then his health began to deteriorate sharply.

Consequences of the service - Oncology from Troitsky, - Volodya is convinced. "There they fired at us, shells were torn right above their heads - either phosphoric or gas, we did not know for sure. A month and a half later, after that, terrible headaches started, my eyesight began to deteriorate, and I turned to the doctors. As a result, I was sent to a hospital, conducted through the classrooms and said: "It seems like you do not want to serve, Vovchik,. And I decided, since they suspect that I am a Koshe, there is no point in going to hospital to address. So, taking zhameny painkillers tablets, finished before the demobilization. They do not want to talk about this, but in the ATU zone there is a lot of equipment from Chernobyl - both ours and the separators. And I know that many go to war healthy, and come back with oncology. Only among my acquaintances of such cases a few.

Volodya served a year and four months, and after returning from the front, he first got a job, despite his health problems. In ATO he met a girl from Artemovsk in the Donetsk region, got married, and the young family needed money to rent a house. Volodya took his wife to Kiev, but just a few days later he became very ill - pain and vision problems were accompanied by nausea and vomiting. A friend in his car drove the guy to the nearest hospital, and the last thing that Volodya remembers is that he was refused to take there and taken to the ambulance from the fourth hospital in the ninth. He woke up in the intensive care unit, where he learned that he had been unconscious for four days.

Trouble continues Volodya was examined for a while at the ENT Institute, the Neurosurgery Institute and the Cancer Institute, and finally he was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the wing of the under-fossa of the nasopharynx. Have told or said, that it is necessary to do or make operation. While the guy was in a serious condition lying in the hospital, his wife found him hopeless, and the couple broke up. Immediately after the New Year at the Institute of Neurosurgery Volodya performed an operation - partially removed the tumor - and sent to Kirovohrad to continue treatment.

And in Kirovohrad there happened something that no one could foresee: Vova was given up by a hand. Instead of treatment, a 22-year-old boy was pumped daily with anesthetic drugs,.

"I was completely blind, could not get up, was confined to bed, and all I could do was call," Volodya says.. - I called my relatives and friends, I say - do something, because they will kill me here, but no one wanted to do anything, many relatives turned away from me. Then I started calling in the Kirovohrad regional administration, in Kiev on the hot line, saying that I was stabbed with an anesthetic instead of being treated. Once it got to the point that I was accidentally pricked by a drug that was intended for my neighbor in the ward, and it was very bad for me, there was foam from my mouth, I was thrown up, it was a nightmare! Maybe the nurse was drunk, I do not know. I was pumped, put drippers, cleaned the body. Stabilized - and again began to prick painkillers, up to morphine - only b did not hurt.

After this incident, the patient's uncle arrived in Kirovohrad and took him from the oncology dispensary, took him to the Gorokhov hospital. At that time, the guy was in a terrible state - he could not eat anything, he was dripping glucose, weighed 57 kilograms, whereas from the army just a month ago came 84 kilograms. Doctors of the Gorokhov hospital were not indifferent, they found two volunteers who took the situation with Vova under their control - Petra Babiya and Vitaly Gladun. The volunteers appealed to the Union of Veterans of the ATU and started collecting money for Volodya for treatment, thanks to them the guy managed to be transported to Lutsk oncological dispensary.

The beginning of a light strip - In Lutsk I finally got lucky with a doctor. Tatyana Evstahyevna sent me to take anew tests, looked at the pictures and said that there are good chances to save me. I convinced that I will try to improve the situation. Thanks to her, I was given radiation therapy for free, although I was not registered in Lutsk. I bought only what I did not have to provide for the hospital - painkillers, medications for nausea, stomatitis and the like. The volunteers collected money for me on the card, and this was enough to cover the costs of treatment. And they really put me on my feet, although after Kirovograd I was almost ready to surrender. Thanks to my new friends that I was not allowed to fold my hands.

Already in the Lutsk oncological dispensary Volodya got acquainted with the volunteer Tatyana Belinskaya, who told him that she was a medic in ATO and also suffered a serious illness. Tatiana so carefully treated the sick soldier that literally three days later he began to eat, then get up and walk slowly, and although he had not seen anything yet, but he had a desire to get up. Volodya felt that a lot of people help him, take care of him, and he wanted to thank them - to make efforts and get well. Support for new friends was just colossal. Whoever visited a guy in the hospital, and everyone asked him what he liked, what he wanted, what to bring. And Volodya, right in the hospital, was given the Order "For Vyrnisty Priyazi".

In Lutsk oncology center the fighter underwent two courses of radiotherapy. After the first of them, Vision began to return to vision, and after several sessions of the second course he began to see clearly, as before. Improved and the general condition - the guy started gaining weight, began to walk a lot and even run away.

A new life Having received fantastic support from volunteers, Volodya also became fired by the desire to help them do good deeds.

- The disease has changed a lot in my life for the better. Changed attitude to life, views on life. I have a lot of friends, and these are real friends, and not like before, who for a bottle of vodka or for a cube of shirki sell ready. And in the hospital I learned to draw!.

One day Volodya came to see Ruslan Kashyuk. He said that he draws icons on the glass, showed photos, offered to teach. The guy was still very badly seen, everything blurred before his eyes, but Vovchik liked the idea. He told about it to a familiar Volhynian journalist, who decided to film the process on video and write an article about it.

The first picture that Volodya wrote was the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Ruslan offered to sell it at a charity auction, and to transfer the money received for treatment to a boy with an oncological disease. Vova gladly agreed. The icon was actually bought, and the buyer transferred one and a half thousand to the child, and gave a thousand to the author, who also needed further treatment.

- After the Mother of God, I painted Nikolai the Sad, and Ruslan asked me to keep this icon so that she would guard me, and said that while I was drawing the icons, I would recover. Of course, I agreed and continued to slowly paint for my pleasure. Over time, friends organized a charity exhibition and sale in Kivertsi near Lutsk, in which, besides my works, there were pictures of professional artist Victoria Romanchuk and children of one of the local schools. I managed to sell about half of the exhibits and collect almost 14 thousand UAH for my treatment.

After this exhibition there was one more - in the Lutsk library. Vova wanted to collect the money to fulfill the dream of a sick little girl - buy her a violin, but only a couple of pictures sold. Still, the good urge did not go unnoticed, there was a man who wanted to help and gave the child a violin, but not simple, but handmade. Vovchik was happy and personally went to hand over to the happy girl a musical instrument.

Prospects Now Volodya, came to the examination, after which the doctors decide - you can operate it and remove the remnants of the tumor or you need to do chemotherapy. The attitude of the 22-year-old guy to his illness is amazing:.

- I was told that I, apparently, do not understand what a dangerous disease I have, that I should lie. But I believe that my body knows best what I can and can not do. It all depends on your attitude towards the disease, tuning in for treatment. So everything will be fine. I know that people transfer chemotherapy differently, many from her very badly, but I am sure that I will transfer it normally. I'm a tough guy.. No wonder my doctor says that they have not had such clowns yet (laughs).

Volodya has many future plans and many ideas, how to help people. He is sure that soon will be healthy. During the time of illness Vova was convinced that around there are many kind people who are not indifferent, and joined their ranks.

Today the guy thinks and acts as freely as a person who can not afford to lose. With most relatives, relations have deteriorated during the illness. Lives in the hospital, then with friends. When he returned from the army, the state allocated him two hectares of land in the Kirovograd region for processing, but the guy does not have the money or the health to plant wheat there. And even if he is given a plot for building, you need a lot of money to build a house. Cheaper to buy ready-made housing.

Vova Babi dreams that someday he will have his own house and a close friend, but while it is not in a hurry to build new relations, you must first recover and get on your feet. In the meantime, he conducts in Facebook, charity auctions, which sells valuable artifacts that can be obtained. The flag of Ukraine with the signature of Svyatoslav Vakarchuk he put up for auction for the third time - the first two times the buyer returned it to a good seller, and the money sent to the treatment of a sick girl.

- Helped you - help and you, the circle of good and support should not be isolated, then the world will change for the better, - Volodya is sure. - A person must take responsibility for what example he gives to others.

Ancient wisdom says: treat others as you would like them to treat you. If someone wants to help Volodya or someone from his charges, you can contact him on Facebook or through the editorial staff of the "Observer".
