The prohibition of social networks or visa isolation causes the same waves of criticism. Like, instead of building a liberal "noah's ark" without Hellenes and Jews, Kiev falls into a heresy of prohibition. And where is the island of freedom? Where are the reforms? Where, finally, is the imperialism of the heart capable of breathing life into the post-Soviet space?.
But liberal critics from Russia do not understand one thing: right now Ukraine is engaged in daily expansion. Yourself inside yourself.
This is the case here Because the whole history of Ukraine is the competition of two projects: Little Russia and, in fact, Ukraine. At first, the main competitor to the imperial was ethnic.
Predominantly ethnic nationalism fought with the Bolsheviks and Communists, partisans in the forests and wrote books in exile. And only in recent years the ethnic project of Ukraine was replaced by a political project. The one that is not about blood and soil, but values.
Maidan sounded in different languages ??and endings of surnames. Good people and volunteers were left by people who were not sung in childhood by lullabies in Ukrainian. And it all gave birth to a feeling of a miracle for many: when the whole country is transformed from an imperial caterpillar into a liberal-ideological butterfly overnight. Social lifts opened, the windows of opportunity opened, the words gained weight, and the political nation was born.
But the first impression is deceptive. Because society is like the ocean: any storms affect the top fifteen meters. All that is lower - remains unshakable even in the tsunami era.
Waves of mobilization created social pits, piercing the thickness of everyday inertia - in each region there were volunteers and veterans, activists and not indifferent. But around them continue to swim those who are not adjusted to change. Those who focus on the values ??of everyday survival. Those for whom the refrigerator is more important than the flag.
And at this moment the newborn Ukraine had to solve the second task. Which, perhaps, is not less ambitious than resistance to the aggressor. Namely - the assimilation of indifferent.
God, protect the polar explorers The indifferent do not go to Maidan. Do not go to volunteers. Do not live by the future. They value inertia and habit, are not ready to change and change. They perceive themselves as the norm, and therefore they repeat that "all the same". Mutual distrust has crushed them and it has also united.
All that lies beyond the boundaries of their personal square meters is "alien". For them there is no collective good, and if it appears side by side - they try to privatize as soon as possible.
For them, the whole current war is a battle between two external players. One of which is more or less familiar with the Soviet past. Vertical, which you can lean on. The boss who is more visible. Paternalism, free from liability.
"Double their distribution of alcohol and leave them as they are" - is it not a formula for everyday life, in which there is too much of a vital to think about the future?.
And the second project wants to break down the old and familiar. Speaks of complicated and strange. Requires responsibility and involvement. Forced to leave the comfort zone and reject nostalgia. This new project wants from them efforts, from which they are unaccustomed and to whom are not ready. Criticizes their present and past. He diagnoses and insists on treatment. In addition, it invades the sphere of intimate personal, expanding the area of ??the state language and removing the symbols of the past.
The first project is Little Russia. The second is Ukraine. The conductor of the first is Moscow. The conductor of the second is that part of Ukrainian society that has been fighting for the third year to privatize the state.
Evolution on the air The battle for the indifferent does not abate for three years already.
New Ukraine, born on the Maidan, is expanding into new territories. In single-industry towns and industrial centers. Trying to re-arrange verticals in the horizontal. Otuchaet from faith in the magic pike and changes on the saucer. Force to leave the comfort zone and reason about the cause-effect relationships.
In addition, she has to fight with the old elites, who are trying to mix new rhetoric with old schemes. And who least want to cede their homes to those who climb to the top of the social pyramid.
The main rival of the new Ukraine is inertia. Thinking and doing. Lifestyles and horizons. Therefore, the main discussion is between "leave us behind" and "live the old way".
In addition, the Kremlin remains on the field of social missionary work, which is just as ready to fight for the right to immerse Ukraine in anabiosis. But if in previous years he tried to advance, now he is forced to defend himself. And the ceiling of his ambitions - to preserve the remnants of "ideological Little Russia".
Before our very eyes, perhaps the most ambitious project of the post-Soviet space is unfolding. Those who argue about the delay in the reforms simply underestimate the scale of the tasks. It is necessary to struggle with the tops, which can not, and the lower classes, who do not want.
On the other side of the barricades - centuries of habits. Tons of mistrust. Hundreds of meters of inertia that permeate the Ukrainian sea from the surface to the bottom.
In fact, Ukraine has to go through the years in a way that other countries have taken decades. To lay new social standard. Agree on the norm.
Localize hostile and assimilate neutral. It's stupid to blame Kyiv for not being a missionary "outside" - because he has to be a missionary all the time "inside".
The country is divided into those who are doing new things, those who want to preserve the old and those who do not care. A good illustration of the fact that someone rolls this world, and someone runs alongside and screams "where does this world go".
