One of the most famous in the world and successful Ukrainian artists, Alexander Roitburd believes that Victory Day must be celebrated on May 8.
This is stated in an interview on the "Observer".
"May 8, of course. It is an international day and the memory of the victims, and the victories, dividing them into two separate days, 8 and 9 - meaningless. The surrender of Germany was signed on May 9, Moscow time, and on Kiev - on May 8, at 23:40, it seems, "said Roitburd.
"But that's not the point. In Europe and Russia this holiday has a different character. The difference can be defined as the difference between the slogans "Nevermore" and "We can repeat". In Russia, the holiday has completely lost the significance that it had in the 60s, when it was our family holiday. On this day people remembered, cried, drank. And they dreamed that there would never be a war. Today in Russia is a holiday of militarism, a militaristic spirit, "- added the artist.
He specified that today in Russia the Victory Day was similar to St. Patrick's Day. Here you can see children in the military and stroller in the form of tanks. Roitburd added that this day was not as long as the veterans were alive.
"Today, veterans who survived, as a rule, can not go to the parade.
My father, now living in America, went to war with the last call: he was born in 1927, went to the front in 1944. So he can not go to the parade, he finds it difficult to walk. And all these actions with fake veterans, hung with awards, devalue those awards that these veterans deserve with their blood, "- said the artist.
As reported by the "Observer", journalist Denis Kazansky told how the Victory Day was a day of trolling.
