On Thursday, May 18, at 12:00 a minute of silence will be held for the victims of the Crimean Tatar people's genocide, and at 18:00 on Independence Square in Kiev a mourning rally begins.

This was reported by one of the leaders of the Crimean Tatars, People's Deputy Refat Chubarov.

"On May 18 we will celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people from our own historical homeland, the Crimea," said Chubarov.

He recalled that since 2016 this day is considered the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar People's Genocide.

"This year for the fourth time in Crimea the anniversary of deportation will take place in the conditions of the temporary Russian occupation. This year, like the previous three years, in the occupied Crimea, no public events are allowed to honor the victims of deportation of the Crimean Tatar people, except for one or two events that will be conducted under the total control of the occupiers, "said Chubarov.

He noted that the Mejlis is planning a number of events in Ukraine and in countries where the Crimean Tatar diaspora is represented.

In particular, a mourning rally dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Crimean Tatar genocide will be held in Kiev on May 18 at 6 pm on Independence Square.

Chubarov added that this Thursday also includes the Day of Ukrainian embroidery - the "symbol of Ukrainian fidelity and freedom". And the organizing committee of the celebration decided at all events to mention the 73rd anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people and its current struggle against the occupation.

"I am also happy to report on the decision of the holy Philaret to honor the memory of the victims of the Crimean Tatar people's genocide with a bell ringing from all the churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. On Thursday at 12 o'clock there will be a minute of silence all over Ukraine and all the countries where the Crimean Tatar diaspora lives, "added Chubarov.

Recall, every year on May 18 in the Republic of Crimea is celebrated the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Deportation of the Peoples of Crimea.
