The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is one of the richest parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate; Some parishioners make big donations and even bequeath to her their property.

This "Observer" was told by the People's Deputy of Ukraine (the "People's Front" faction), the president of the Ukrainian Association of Religious Freedom Viktor Yelensky.

As explained by the expert, the financial condition of a separate parish depends on many factors. "There are different churches, different parishes. There are churches where the priest can get a lot of money, for example, if it is a city cathedral - there are a lot of big money. But there are very poor rural priests. I know such a priest who, in order for his parish to live, is engaged in cartage - he carries salt and other, earns money, although the church rule says that the priest eats from the altar ".

Commenting on the incident with the priest of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, who drives around in a Rolls-Royce, Elensky acknowledged: "There are priests, bishops who really live on a broad footing". "They have money not so much from ordinary parishioners as from participation in some kind of business, lobbying some business before the authorities and from very generous contributions from sponsors," he explained..

People's Deputy also assured that the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - "one of the richest places". "This place is very visited, there are a lot of people there. They not only bring money there - some of them make big donations.

Some even bequeath the estate of Lavra ".

At the same time Yelenskyi said: "We are very annoying when the priest comes out of the Rolls-Royce, or when the abbot of the monastery Swan shikuet and zhiruet. But notice that for those who support these people, public opinion is not significant ".

As the "Observer" wrote, Viktor Yelensky earlier named the name of the "general sponsor" of the UOC-MP.
