- Last summer you became one of the main characters in a scandal with photographer Dmitry Muravsky. I remember that then it poured a lot of dirt. Including you from my compatriots. Not disappointed in the Ukrainians? "Why should I be disappointed?" I know my position, I can repeat it. What Muravsky did is a crime. Not because he took off, but anyone can take it off, but because he arranged this circus. For what he did, it is necessary to judge and expel him from work, which in general happened.

He arranged a circus with shooting a dummy episode with a front blast on the front line. These people fled from point A to point B, carrying a conditionally injured comrade, and behind them pyrotechnics made an explosion. I was told by witnesses who participated in this. I spent my entire life in the war. I do not know how long Muravsky stayed on it, but if an explosion occurs, at best you fall to the ground and crawl in another direction, covering your head with your hands, and not running.

He was just looking for the opportunity to show off in some kind of stupid Facebook. Put a bag of cement over the explosive, so the explosion is so white, beautiful, such clubs. And the usual explosions are black and not so dramatic. This is a movie reception, but no fools. All the photographers experienced in this matter.

- I remember that then I was most embarrassed by this stroller. It immediately seemed that the author went too far with the tragedy.

- Yes, there is all the untruth in this picture. He was lucky that he was just kicked out. For this it was necessary to judge. In the United States of America you would be thrown out of the newspaper for one day on the front line in one day.

I will not forget the case when I worked in the Los Angeles Times. In 2003, there was a wonderful photographer in Los Angeles from Los Angeles. All of us then pressed the deadline, it was very difficult, it was necessary to hurry to invest in terms. He made some photos in Basra. On one frame was captured a handsome man with a child, and on the other there was a soldier, but they were not on one frame. He connected them in Photoshop.

A wonderful, brilliant picture, but the problem was that because of the back of one of them the back of a man was sticking out, which in this frame was already in another place. That is, one person was sealed two times. This photo was printed, the number came out, and this picture was on the first page. In the evening of the same day he was expelled, and he now works as a wedding photographer. No one will ever work for him again. At the same time, he did not risk anyone, unlike Muravsky.

I remember another story with a photographer who happened in 2001 in Afghanistan, when I was working in Banshera - it's next to Kabul. In Kabul, the Taliban sat, and where I was there was the Northern Alliance, which was an ally of the Americans. The Americans bombed Kabul, and they besieged it.

One day, because of some holidays, a truce was announced, and on that day a German television journalist arrived. And there was such a mess that anyone could pass by. He came to the position of artillerymen and asked the children to shoot. They say that they have a truce. In response, he gave them $ 100, and this is money that they do not receive in their entire lives, and they bang on positions, and they in return. As a result, 12 people were killed. Here's a vivid example of an intervention. Therefore, these games on the front line are very dangerous.

- When you came to Donetsk airport, the guys did not shun you? Like, there came a Russian, and even with a camera. - You see, I spent my whole life on different wars. I know how the smell of footcloths smells, what bloody blisters are, that's why I, in general, can easily communicate with soldiers, because they feel that their. I do not force someone to do something, but simply become part of the landscape. I communicate. On the first day at the airport I did not shoot much, I talked with them. I'm not only a photographer, but a writing correspondent. I said, and they got used to me. It happened very quickly. Literally a couple of anecdotes, a few cups of coffee, which we passed to each other and we have already become our people.

Now you're alive, and then you're already killed. Therefore, any falsity here does not go. There are no petty showdowns, resentments, everyone treats one another well. Everyone jokes, everyone is cheerful, everyone is happy in these terrible moments, when every day can be the last in your life. This is the feeling of drug intoxication, adrenaline makes them sociable, cheerful and happy. This is the most tragic moment in their life - their tragic happiness.

- I interviewed many fighters. Each of them says that victory will definitely come. The only question is the timing and methods of achieving it. And in your opinion, how can the conflict in the Donbass end? - The war will end by itself. As soon as Putin is over, the war will end right away. This is the only option I see right now. This option can speed up the Americans if they impose sanctions against the closest associates of Putin: they will freeze all assets to them, arrest accounts abroad, real estate, yachts, send their wives and children home. They will not let them into their territory.

For the fact that the State Duma and the Federation Council adopted a one-stage decision on the use of the armed forces in Ukraine, Europe had to immediately bring everyone to the "black list". And they they brought in the "black list" 20 people, which led to the death of the lawyer Magnitsky. While these people killed thousands of innocent people in Ukraine. And I do not see sanctions against them.

I do not know, it is unlikely that Ribbentrop could freely travel to America in 1943. You do not need to communicate with them, you need to turn them into North Korea, just close them and let them cook themselves. This will lead to a more rapid drop in the regime than anything else. But, apparently, they are not interested in this. Probably, there are interests in communicating with this regime and exactly in the state in which it is now located.

- Maybe in the West they are afraid that the next Russian rulers will be even worse? - I do not know what they are still afraid of. You see, a feeling that it would be good for them if this problem resolved itself. In words, they express sympathy and concern, but in fact Ukraine does not interest them. For the West there is no danger, and all these human rights are blah-blah-blah. It is for this that there are all kinds of organizations, such as the UN, where everyone is shaking the air, and the main thug can come and veto, like a bunch of people in the Security Council meeting room in front of everyone.

- In March, it seemed that the people in Russia a little stirred up. I mean the wave of anti-corruption rallies, which was launched by Navalny. Do you think he can get a "light" of the Russians? - There's something about it. Navalny demonstrated to the whole of Russia that in the country there is a young generation of disgruntled. I'm not sure that they are very angry with the war against Ukraine or the fact that "Krymnas" - they do not give a damn about it at best. They are angry that, as said in one popular Soviet film: "Everything is already stolen before us". They realized that in this country to break through to a young man and something can not be done. All stolen: jobs, money, the future - everything is stolen by Putin's regime. This worries them, they are both angry about this and see how this protest will develop further.

This is not truckers who can unscrew the trailer and bribe the ruble. These can not be bought, the Internet can not be turned off, the TV does not affect them, because they do not watch it. This is something with which the Putin regime can not cope. This is the very Frankenstein, whom they have been educating all the time in the form of the Young Guard and the rest of the pro-Kremlin youth movement. And this Frankenstein was not at all pro-Kremlin.

- Your new book is devoted to the tragedy MH-17. The investigation has been going on for almost three years, and there is as yet no end-edge. Do you believe that international justice will triumph and those responsible for this will be punished?.

- I do not believe this book will answer this question. I do not believe in international justice. This is done in order to calm people. It will not lead to anything.. If we consider that the Hague is a Nuremberg tribunal, then this requires a serious military defeat. Only when criminals are kneeled through military defeat, they can be put in a cage. Now they are armed to the teeth and will not admit anything further, continue to rest on Miami. That's to forbid them to rest on Miami - this is the only way to punish them.

Therefore, my hero in the book, whose family was killed in this plane, will not wait for the decision of The Hague.

- It turns out these people will go unpunished? - In my book there is no, but this is fiction. Although you know, I should already have money to earn it.
