The authorities of Venice decided to install special devices for counting tourists who come every day to the city, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The corresponding decision on April 27 adopted the junta (administrative executive body) of Venice. If this decision is approved by the government of Italy and UNESCO, in a number of strategic points through which the main tourist stream arrives in the city, automatic meters will appear. Thus, the city authorities want to receive data on visitors and to control their numbers.

In addition, the Mayor of Venice Luigi Bruniaro promised to launch an international information campaign in order to explain to tourists the specifics of the situation in the city, which no longer withstands a huge influx of visitors.

The city authorities also plan to publish specific dates in advance, when the maximum number of visitors is expected in the city, to open new areas for catering, to change the operating mode for steamers carrying tourists through the Grand Canal, to increase the number of law enforcement officers.
