A centralized storage facility that will house spent nuclear fuel from Ukrainian nuclear power plants will be located in the exclusion zone in the north of the Kiev region. According to the press service of the government, referring to the words of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak, this is the most important project for Ukraine, since it involves the safe storage of spent fuel for a long period.

Today, spent fuel is stored in Russia and the construction of such an object will not only save money from the state budget, but will also confirm the independence of Ukraine from the Russian Federation, since Ukraine annually pays about 200 million dollars for storage of its waste,.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, in April 2016 was announced to postpone the start of the ISFSF at the end of 2018 due to lack of funds to finance the project and problems with the provision of land for storage. In October 2016, the Cabinet allocated 45.2 hectares in the exclusion zone for the construction of the ISFSF.
