Ukrainian Russian-language writer Pavel Belyansky called himself "a dead-end branch of the writer's evolution in Ukraine" due to the fact that he does not produce works in the state language.
The piercing post Belyansky posted on his Facebook page.
"I am a Russian-speaking Ukrainian author. I am a dead-end branch of the writer's evolution in Ukraine. After three books published in my Ukraine in Russian, I, perhaps, can talk about myself like that. I understand that a country can not exist without its own language. I support the view that any civil servant must speak in Ukrainian. I am confident that with every year the number of Ukrainians who speak the Ukrainian language will grow, and over time, in twenty years, for example, or thirty, Russian speech in Ukraine will be perceived about the same as now - on the streets of Prague or Warsaw, " He stressed.
Belyansky added that written Ukrainian speech can not be ideal for the year.
"I believe when they tell me that for a year a person took and completely switched to the Ukrainian language. In communication - I believe. But the written language has been developed for many years and hundreds of books read. I started reading from the age of four. I do not remember myself not reading. I'm almost forty, and for 36 years I read more than one hundred books in Russian. I'm sure that I can not dial the same language baggage in the Ukrainian language, "he said..
"Perhaps there are people who can. If I meet the author who wrote three books in Russian, and then without the help of an interpreter wrote the same novel in Ukrainian, I will say that such author is a genius. No kidding. Without irony. I'm not a genius. I can not do this.
I was not taught the Ukrainian language at school, and this is not my fault. In those places where my father served, there were no Ukrainian schools. Therefore, I did not meet in my childhood any relation to the Ukrainian language, neither good nor bad. It simply was not, "- wrote Belyansky.
He added that over time it will become more frequent to speak Ukrainian.
"But I will continue to write in Russian, as I will continue to think on it. This is not good or bad. It's just a fact ... My books have no place in Ukraine. I do not imagine myself behind an aggressive imperial curb that has already killed several of my friends in the war. I am a Russian-speaking Ukrainian author. I am a dead-end branch of the writer's evolution in Ukraine. I write texts, posts in FB, stories or novels, because the process gives me pleasure. And I know that I will write, even when I completely stop reading. I already wrote, I am confident in my words, "- summed up the writer.
