Ukrainian performer Sofia Rotaru has remained silent in public space for almost four years. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the star has hardly appeared on social networks, and her rare messages are limited to laconic congratulations or reactions to Russian shelling with one emoji. However, as it turned out, the reason for such a long silence is not indifference or distance from Ukraine.
Journalist Alexey Sukhanov, who previously stated that he communicates not with Rotaru directly, but with her relatives, made a new statement in an interview with IPsO and People. According to him, it was the singer’s relatives who told him the real reason why the artist does not give interviews, although in fact she has long wanted to do so. " She refuses. She really wants to talk, but, believe me, right now there is one circumstance that is stopping her. She is silent for a reason, as they explained to me,” recounted the words of people close to Rotaru.
The presenter emphasized that he has no right to voice this circumstance, but assured: the singer’s silence is due to her condition, and not to her reluctance to communicate with the Ukrainian audience.
“I am not authorized to talk about this, but believe me, she is silent for a reason and she is not indifferent to this,” added Sukhanov.
This position coincides with his older statement that Rotaru is in Ukraine and has health problems that prevent her from returning to major publicity. Previously, he reported that the singer was “preparing for an interview, but not yet in the same emotional and physical state.”. According to Sukhanov, the artist needs time to gather her strength.
Sukhanov’s position is confirmed by the words of Aurika Rotaru, the singer’s younger sister. She recently refuted Russian fakes about “moving to Italy” and emphasized: Sofia Rotaru lives in her house in the suburbs of Kyiv and remains close to her family.
" She also worries about all of us, about our guys, about our Ukraine.. She has a fund that helps our guys. She is with us. She is neither in Russia nor in Crimea. She is here – in Ukraine,” Aurika told Rotaru then.
