On the Independence Day of Ukraine, President Vladimir Zelensky celebrated state awards of the Ukrainian military, doctors, scientists, cultural and public figures. One of the laureates was the singer Jamal, who received the Order of Princess Olga III degree. The ceremony took place on Sofia Square in Kyiv and was broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the presidential office. For the artist, this news was a surprise.

As Jamala admitted, she learned about the award only on the eve of the celebrations. The singer without hesitation agreed to come to the celebrations. On her Instagram, she published a video of the moment when she received the Order from the hands of the president and talked with him after the ceremony.

For Jamala, participation in national and international events has always been a way to remind the world about Ukraine and its struggle. That is how she did back in 2016, when she won the Eurovision Council with the song 1944, drawing attention to the history of the Crimean Tatar people and the problems of the occupied Crimea.

The Order of Princess Olga, who received the artist, is a state reward that is awarded to women for significant merits in various fields: culture, science, education, social activity, charity or public administration. It has three degrees, the highest is the I degree. Traditionally, the award begins with the third degree, and it was they who celebrated Jamal.
