An unknown drawing by artist Henri Matisse was found in a pile of rubbish in the south-east of France, BFMTV reports..
According to appraiser-auctionist Jennifer Prempier-Rolland, she discovered the painting in one of the houses in the Var department while inspecting the property, making out guardianship.
The drawing is a portrait of a woman. It was stored in a cardboard box under a pile of rubbish..
Now the drawing is undergoing art examination.
About a year ago, the same appraiser found a sketch for a portrait of Helene Mercier, nee Princess Golitsyna, lost since 1948. As it turned out, the drawing was kept in the closet of a resident of the commune of Manosque (department of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).
In May 2021, the sketch was sold at auction for €220,000..
