Medieval frescoes by Giotto and his students are saved from destruction in the Basilica of St. Francis in the Italian city of Assisi. They depict scenes from the life of Mary Magdalene, as well as the resurrection of Lazarus.

Several years ago, during a check, experts found out that the plaster, along with the painting, peels off the walls.. Earthquakes periodically occur in this area, and the murals can die even with weak aftershocks.. We decided to carry out restoration. She is the first in half a century.

Giotto di Bondone - Italian painter and architect. He became the founder of the Proto-Renaissance era. Instead of flat iconographic images, the master created three-dimensional, more realistic.

Restorers consider it a great privilege to work with frescoes.

The Basilica of Saint Francis was built between 1228 and 1253. It is decorated with ten thousand square meters of frescoes painted by the workshop of Giotto, as well as by the artists Cimabue, Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti.

The Basilica together with the Sacro Convento Monastery in Assisi are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The temple is also considered one of the six great basilicas of the Catholic Church.
