The British Film and Television Academy (BAFTA) will review voting rules for films shortlisted for its annual film award. Changes will take effect in 2021. About this publication Variety told the British producer and head of the organization, Mark Samuelson. He noted that film academics will conduct a thorough analysis of which films, as well as which directors and actors are among the nominees. According to Samuelson, BAFTA members will even turn to experts outside the organization..

This decision was made against the backdrop of questions about the identity and racial diversity of those whom the film academy noted in the shortlist of the award this year:

not a single black actor or performer of Asian origin is presented in the nominations, and only men will fight for the title of best director. Following the announcement of the nominees on January 7, the British Academy admitted that the lack of diversity on this year’s list is “enraging,” birdinflight notes. In December 2019, the Golden Globe Award was subjected to similar criticism: there were no women among its nominees in the main categories (Best Director, Best Film, Best Screenplay)..
