The center of photography of the New York University in Abu Dhabi digitized more than 9,000 photographs taken in the Middle East and North Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries, writes Open Culture. Photos from their collections to create an online archive provided dozens of galleries and museums from different countries.

Among the images there are, for example, the urban landscapes of Istanbul in the 1900s, old portraits of the inhabitants of Algerian villages and pictures from family albums. For convenient viewing, photos can be sorted by the shooting location and the creation time.

For the countries of the Middle East, the initiative of the Photographic Center is one of the most ambitious projects of this kind. In total, it was possible to collect more than 60 thousand archival photographs: most of them are still not digitized, they plan to do it in the near future.
