Last year, artist Caroline Caldwell and writer RJ Rushmore launched the Art in Places project, for which 55 artists were invited and asked to create posters on a free topic. The resulting work was then placed on the New York phone booths, writes Colossal. Now, in February 2018, the authors of the action released a book based on the project.
According to Caldwell and RJ Rushmore, the goal of the project is to fight with ubiquitous advertising that pollutes the city's visual appearance: if you can not completely clear the streets of it, you can at least replace it with art. "Telephone booths were an ideal choice for us, because in the modern world they do not perform any real function except that they serve as a place for advertising," the authors of the project.
