De Wallen, the notorious red light district in Amsterdam, is under threat, writes Julie Bindel, author of "Using Prostitution for Selfish Things: Destroying the Myth of the Sex Industry," an article for the Independent.

"Many of his showcases of brothels, in which women are on display, like carcasses of animals, for the joy of sex tourists, are closing. Many areas of legal street prostitution are being closed across the country, and soon all of them will cease to operate, "she said.. "At the moment in the Dutch Senate is under consideration a bill that, if adopted, will make a criminal offense the actions of clients of prostitutes if they pay for sex with a woman who has been a victim of human trafficking used by pimps or forced to do so by any other means," - reads the article.

"These changes were the result of an active movement for the abolition of the sale of sex services, which appeared in the Netherlands," the author notes..

The Dutch legalized their brothel industry in 2000. The government promised that the result would be security for women and the end of human trafficking. But the opposite happened, says Bindel.

"The illegal and unlicensed sale of sex services flourished under the new legislation, the importation of sex slaves has risen sharply, demand is growing, and women are certainly not in a more secure position than when pimping was illegal," reads the article.

I went to Holland for 15 years, investigating the consequences of the legalization of prostitution, explains the author.

I interviewed clients of prostitutes, women in brothels, pimps and lobbyists for the legalization of prostitution, she wrote..

Yolanda Boer is a senior prosecutor specializing in cases involving trafficking in human beings. Over the past decade, Boer has dealt with more than 100 such cases in Amsterdam. "There have been cases when a girl was raped by her pimps and threatened to force her to work in a shop window. Women can not freely report that something is going wrong. But, of course, they smile, because if you do not do it, you will not get a client, "says Boer.
