According to the beliefs, the saint brought the Christian faith to the lands of Russia and predicted the appearance of a great city on the Kiev mountains.

On the night of Andrew believed that in a dream you can see the image of a betrothed and tell fortunes for the future. At evening gatherings young guys were admitted to the company, for this purpose they arranged a special rite.

On the eve of the girl baked a festive cake - kalitou. It had the shape of a circle with a hole in the middle. In the dough, dried fruits and berries were added, and the finished kalite was dipped in honey.

Then the cake was hung on the tape to the ceiling of the room. A young man riding a poker had to bounce and bite off a piece of kalit. Lucky, who managed to do this on the first attempt, was accepted into the company. It was believed that the guy who bit off kalit in the coming year must marry a beautiful and intelligent girl.
