The study, conducted by the staff of the University of Santiago de Compostela, involved 467 children aged 2 to 18 years. Some participants had their parents divorced, while the others did not. Scientists have found that children with divorced parents had health problems twice as often as participants from complete families, reports The Daily Mail.

In particular, because of the parents' divorce, the children were at increased risk of problems with the nervous system, intestines, skin and urogenital system.

Divorce did not affect breathing, heart, muscles, hearing, vision and the likelihood of developing allergies. Experts consider the cause of health problems in these children is not the divorce itself, but how parents deal with it.

Many parents are in conflict during a divorce and can not maintain a good relationship. A similar situation in the family causes chronic stress in children. And he, in turn, negatively affects the health of children. According to scientists, reducing stress levels will help prevent negative consequences.
