French rock singer and composer Johnny Holliday died at the age of 74.
The cause of the death of the singer, according to news agencies, was lung cancer.
Over his decades-long career, the singer, whose real name is Jean-Philippe Smet, sold more than 100 million CDs and starred in several films.
In 1997, the then French President Jacques Chirac handed the singer the Order of the Legion of Honor.
It was Holliday, who was called the "French Elvis Presley," who first began to perform rock and roll in French.
"He showed the French what rock and roll. He is one of those who can be said - a real beast on stage. He's just incredible. He is loved by people of all ages, "said journalist Philippe Le Correux about Holliday. This is reported by BBC Russian Service.
