In St. Petersburg on the 99th year of life died an outstanding Soviet and Russian writer Daniil Granin. He died in intensive care at a clinic in St. Petersburg. Last days the writer was connected to the device of artificial ventilation.
Daniil Granin (Herman) was born on January 1, 1919 in the family of a forester. After graduating from the electromechanical faculty of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, he became an engineer at the Kirov plant. Granin took part in the Second World War, including fighting in the tank troops. Was twice wounded. After the war he worked in Lenenergo and the Research Institute. Published in 1949. In 1954, published his first novel - "Seekers". The readers of his book "I'm Coming to the Storm", "After the Wedding", "This Strange Life".
In the late 1970s, together with Ales Adamovich, Granin wrote the "Blockade Book" - a documentary chronicle of the siege of Leningrad. The publication of the book was postponed several times because of censorship considerations. For the first time part of it was printed with bills only in 1977 in the magazine "New World". In Leningrad, the book was published only in 1984, after the change of party leadership of the city.
Roman Granin "Zubr" about the life of the biology scholar Timofeev-Resovsky became one of the first books of the so-called "perestroika" literature of the late 1980s.
On the same day, it was also learned of the death of the widow of the famous director Alexei German - the elder, co-author of his films Svetlana Karmalita. A native of Kiev died in St. Petersburg at the age of 77. This was reported by the son of Karmalita - director Alexei German Jr..
