The Kremlin does not see “novelty” in US President Donald Trump’s threats to impose new sanctions against Russia if an agreement cannot be reached to end the war in Ukraine. Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said this at a briefing on Thursday, January 23.

“We don’t see any particularly new elements here. You know that Trump, in his first iteration of his presidency, was the American president who most often resorted to sanctions methods. He likes these methods. At least he liked them during his first presidency,"

Peskov assured that the Kremlin is “very carefully watching” all rhetoric and statements and “carefully recording all the nuances”.

At the same time, he confirmed that Russia remains ready for an equal dialogue with the United States. In his opinion, this is exactly the kind of dialogue that took place between Putin and Trump before.

“We are waiting for signals that have not yet been received,” the Kremlin speaker added.

Let us recall that on January 22, Trump called on Putin to conclude an agreement to end the war in Ukraine as quickly as possible, otherwise he would impose high taxes, tariffs and sanctions..

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry welcomed Trump’s “strong statement” on the need to end Russia’s war against our country.
