The day before, the new Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, held a meeting in Moscow with the head of the European Union representation in Russia, Vygaudas Usackas.
The message on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry says: "An exchange of views took place on topical issues of international and regional security".
As previously reported, on August 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Antonov a Russian ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the United States. Also Antonov became a permanent observer of the Russian Federation at the Organization of American States in Washington, in combination.
Recall, before Antonov, Russia's ambassador to the United States was Sergei Kislyak, who held this post since 2008.
