The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy informed today, on August 21, that the first batch of liquefied natural gas from the USA was delivered to the Klaipeda State Seaport of Lithuania in the Baltic.
Head of the department Zhigimantas Vaichunas noted: "Liquefied gas was delivered to our country under the agreement signed in June with the American energy company Cheniere".
It is reported that in the holds of the tanker that has come to Klaipeda, which goes under the flag of the Marshall Islands, there are about 140 thousand cubic meters of raw materials. The minister added that in mid-September a second shipment of gas is expected in Klaipeda.
Vaichunas also expressed the hope that the supply of gas from the US will reduce the price for Lithuanian consumers. He said:
"With the increase in supplies, sooner or later the price will decrease".
It is specified that liquefied gas will be delivered to the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal operating in the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda in the Baltic Sea. From there, the gas will be distributed over the gas network, and part goes to storage in the underground storage Inchukalnsky in Latvia. Until now, the terminal has regularly received liquefied gas from Norway under a contract with Statoil, as well as from Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago.
