On Monday, July 17, the statement of the EU Council at the level of the Foreign Minister said that the Council of the EU completed today the procedure for the adoption of temporary trade preferences for Ukraine for a period of three years. The decision will come into force on September 1, 2017..

The statement says: "Thanks to today's decision, we will allow more exports to the EU. It is our duty to support Ukraine and strengthen political and trade ties, especially in the face of conflict on its territory ".

As previously reported, on July 4, these measures were approved by the European Parliament. The author of the project, the Polish MEP Jaroslaw Walesa then stated his desire to support the reforms that are being conducted in Ukraine, to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises and create conditions for the growth of trade turnover. Then he also expressed the hope that these funds "will strengthen our relations and provide effective assistance to Ukraine, will be economically and politically beneficial for the Ukrainian people".

As it became known, the adopted document, in particular, provides for the introduction of additional quotas, according to which Ukrainian producers can duty-free import their products to the European market. First of all it concerns agricultural producers. It is specified that the EU allocates to Ukraine an annual quota for duty-free import of tomatoes (3 thousand. Tons), wheat (65 thousand. Tons), corn (625 thousand. Tons), barley (325 thousand. Tons). It is noted that during the discussion of the document the quotas of the EU for Ukraine were revised downwards taking into account the interests of European producers.

Trade preferences are introduced for Ukraine in the framework of an association agreement with the EU.

At the same time, the document emphasizes that one of the main requirements for Kiev remains the fight against corruption and the observance of democratic standards.

The document states: "Articles 2 and 3 of the association agreement provide that respect for the principles of democracy, human rights and respect for fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, as well as efforts to combat corruption and organized crime and measures to promote sustainable development and the idea of ??effective multilateralism , Form the basis of relations with Ukraine ".
