Minister of Defense of Montenegro Predrag Boskovic in Brussels at a meeting of the heads of the Defense Ministry of the NATO member states said that at present the North Atlantic alliance is not interested in deploying military bases in Montenegro.
Boskovic said: "There is no initiative to deploy NATO bases in Montenegro. At the moment, this does not correspond to the interests of NATO, even if we are striving for this ".
"Izvestia" note that while the minister said that the entry of Montenegro into NATO meets the interests of Russia.
The Minister of Defense of Montenegro declared: "If there is a desire for stability in the Western Balkans, then this decision is in the interests of Russia too".
Let us recall that Montenegro became the 29th member of NATO on June 6, 2017 after the ratification by the parliament of the agreement on the country's accession to the alliance. Most of the population of the former Yugoslav republic opposed this decision, protests took place in the country.
