"Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports that a treasure from the times of Ivan the Terrible was found in the center of Moscow in a trench for gas pipes. The official portal of the government and the mayor of the capital reported today, May 10, that it was a chess figure of an elephant with a secret inside.

As it became known, the elephant was found on the historic street of Prechistenka. Experts have determined that the figure is made of bone, and inside there is a cavity. There were 10 silver coins. Researchers believe that they were minted in 1530-40.

And one of them - on the Tver Mint, and the rest - on the Moscow. It is specified that, in total, 5 kopecks were hidden in the elephant. It is explained that it can not be said that this state is for those times, but for pocket trifle the amount is also not considered worthwhile. For a penny under Ivan the Terrible one could buy a live goose.

Archaeologists have covered the figure with a protective composition, and now the question of its transfer to the museum.
