RT in Russian reports that in a joint statement by Pentagon chief James Mattis, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and US National Intelligence Director Dan Coates, the United States intends to tighten sanctions against North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
CNBC quoted the statement:
"The president's approach is aimed at forcing the DPRK to abandon its programs (development) of nuclear ballistic missiles and proliferation programs by tightening economic sanctions, using diplomatic measures together with our allies and regional partners".
As noted, the US is working with its partners to strengthen "pressure on the DPRK to convince the regime to begin de-escalation and return to the path of dialogue".
Mattis, Tillerson and Coates in a joint statement earlier said that the US is open to negotiations on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
