Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the recent missile strike of the United States by the Syrian air base Shayrat, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta. In his speech at the Sixth Moscow Conference on Security, the Minister said that this attack removed the prospects for creating a broad antiterrorist front.

Lavrov stressed that the decision to release 59 missiles on the Syrian territory became "a gross violation of international law and an act of aggression against a sovereign state". He added that this demonstrative gesture by Washington only exacerbated the problems in Syria, alienating the possibility of forming a broad front of the antiterrorist struggle. The US explained its actions by responding to an alleged chemical attack in the province of Idlib. On Smolenskaya Square, it is noted that until now, the Americans did not provide any evidence that the chemical poisoning in the city of Shah-Sheikhun was due to the use of chemical weapons by government forces against civilians.

It is also noted that the initiative of Russia to send experts to the zone of the incident was blocked by the OPCW.

In addition, Lavrov recalled that in the final statement of the recent meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries, it was said that the international cooperation in the fight against terrorism is of the utmost importance. The Russian Foreign Minister concluded: "However, the words in words, but in practice, the matter never got off the ground. The political ambitions and double standards are still hampering genuine joint action ".
