Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, one of the authors of the bill on tariffs of 500% on Russian oil, believes that President Donald Trump is leaving Ukraine to its fate and forcing it to make “unreasonable” and “unfair” territorial concessions. In a comment to Suspilny, he noted that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner need to be replaced.

" I think Trump needs new envoys - Witkoff and Kushner seem to be siding with Russia instead of being impartial or objective negotiators. And the whole 'peace plan' needs to be thrown out, they need to go back to square one,"

In addition, he commented on Trump’s demand regarding elections in Ukraine. In his opinion, in this way the US President “calms Putin”.

Another Democratic senator, Jeanne Shaheen, believes that Ukraine should not be pressured to sign the agreement before Christmas. According to her, the Russian Federation only reacts to pressure from Europe and the United States, so it is necessary to give more weapons to Ukraine and impose secondary sanctions.

“Whatever he [Zelensky] proposes, if it brings Putin to the negotiating table, I support it. We want to stop the killings. I'm not going to say what he needs or doesn't need to do, I'm just saying that Zelensky needs to be realistic in his approach, but frankly, Putin needs to be realistic in what he asks. So what I want is unimportant. The only thing that matters is what stops the fighting. This is what we want,"

Previously, columnist David Ignatius published some of the ideas currently being considered for peace. According to his information, it is planned to provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to Article 5 of NATO, create a demilitarized zone, and the Zaporizhia NPP will be deoccupied.
