The Council of the EU has decided to introduce restrictive measures against five more people and two organizations responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran, according to the website of the Council.

The new listings include the current commander of the Iranian Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) Tehran Police Assistance Unit and a person linked to the so-called Maryam Arvin case, a lawyer who was brutally arrested for her stance in protecting protesters and subsequently died after being tortured..

In addition, the new sanctions target an Iranian police official and secretary of Iran's Supreme Cyberspace Council (SCC), the body responsible for repression in cyberspace..

The Council of the EU also sanctioned the IRGC Cooperative Fund, which is the body responsible for managing the investments of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and allocating money for the regime's brutal repression, and the Basij Student Organization (SBO). Members of the latter carry out violent acts on behalf of the government on university campuses where students staged protests in the fall of 2022 and then became victims of repression and serious human rights violations, including abductions and torture.

In general, this is already the eighth package of sanctions against Tehran adopted by the Council.. The list of restrictive measures already applies to 216 individuals and 37 legal entities.

The measures include an asset freeze, a ban on entering the EU, and a ban on providing these individuals with any funds or economic resources.. There is also a ban on the export to Iran of equipment that can be used for internal repression and equipment for monitoring telecommunications..

The European Union expresses its support for the fundamental aspirations of the people of Iran for a future where their universal human rights and fundamental freedoms are respected, protected and fulfilled..

They once again called on Iran to end the practice of issuing and executing the death penalty on protesters, to abolish the death sentences handed down, and to ensure due process for all detainees, including foreign civilians, whom the country's leadership is detaining for political gain..

According to Amnesty International, the number of executions recorded last year was the highest in five years, with it rising from 314 in 2021 to 576 in 2022 in Iran..
