The decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the constitutionality of the article on renaming the UOC-MP strengthens the position of the state in the fight against the aggressor, the Constitutional Court said on Wednesday, commenting on yesterday's court decision.

Serhiy Golovaty, acting head of the court, noted that two aspects of the law were considered in court - the full name and restriction of access for certain categories of clergy to military service, representing a religious organization with a center in the aggressor country. As the Commander-in-Chief writes, according to him, the right to worship, unlike the right to life, is not absolute, in which the state can interfere when it comes to the external aspect.

In turn, the judge of the Constitutional Court Oleksandr Petryshyn noted that the Constitutional Court, when considering the issue, took into account the law on the introduction of martial law.

“The decision of the Constitutional Court strengthens the position of the state and dotted the i,” said Petryshyn.

He noted that the law does not indicate the name of religious organizations that need to be renamed, so this issue will be resolved based on the results of a religious expertise..

Recall, on the eve of the Constitutional Court declared the law conforming to the Constitution, according to which the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate must change its name and indicate its affiliation to Russia.

The UOC-MP promptly stated that the alleged decision of the Constitutional Court does not oblige them to anything, so they will not change the name of the institution.
