MEPs voted for a regulation allowing Ukraine to receive a support package of 18 billion euros in 2023. Hungary's veto failed. This was reported by the press service of the EP.

The EP adopted the change proposed by the European Council in the regulation of macro-financial assistance under an urgent procedure. Consequently, the 26 EU member states can act as guarantors of a loan for Ukraine, provided on concessional terms, but with reforms. This loan is planned to cover essential government services, including hospitals, schools and housing..

“It is also designed to help maintain macroeconomic stability and restore infrastructure in Ukraine, which is under constant attack from Russia,” the EP said in a statement..

Recall that earlier Hungary blocked the provision of 18 billion euros from the EU to Ukraine at a meeting of EU finance ministers in Brussels, thus trying to counteract the decision on financial assistance to their country.. But the blackmail failed because the EU not only overcame Hungary's veto, but also froze money for it due to corruption and procurement problems in the country..

It was possible to bypass the blocking of Hungary by providing national budget guarantees from the EU countries.
