Opinions that in the current conditions Ukraine may refuse to join NATO in exchange for security guarantees from the United States, Britain, Germany, France, etc.. , adhere to 42% of Ukrainians. This is discussed in the results of a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

39% of respondents oppose Ukraine's refusal to join the North Atlantic Alliance. They are convinced that only membership in NATO can ensure the security of our state..

19% of Ukrainians have not decided on their opinion or do not agree with any statement at all.

Readiness to abandon NATO and receive security guarantees grows from West to East - from 35 to 50%. At the same time, from 46% to 25%, there are fewer of those who insist on the course of joining NATO..

The survey was conducted on May 13-18, 2022 by computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers (with random generation of phone numbers and subsequent statistical weighting). In total, sociologists interviewed 2,000 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea). The survey was conducted with adult (aged 18 years and over) citizens of Ukraine who at the time of the survey lived in Ukraine (within the limits controlled by the Ukrainian authorities until February 24, 2022). The sample did not include residents of territories that were temporarily not controlled by the authorities of Ukraine until February 24, 2022 (AR of Crimea,. Sevastopol, certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions), as well as the survey was not conducted with citizens who went abroad after February 24, 2022.

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical error of such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) did not exceed 2.4% for indicators close to 50%, 2.1% for indicators close to 25%,. In war conditions, in addition to the indicated formal error, a certain systematic deviation is added, but at the same time, the results obtained remain highly representative and allow one to reliably analyze the public mood of the population..
