By delaying the ratification of the Rome Statute, Ukraine is losing time in its ability to make decisions at the International Criminal Court, Gunduz Mammadov, an expert on international criminal law, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine in 2019-2021, is sure.
“There are no legal consequences of delaying ratification, as such. It's just that Ukraine is wasting time in decision-making opportunities at the ICC, improving the skills of its specialists, which is now extremely necessary,” Mammadov said in an interview with ZN. U.A..
As for the political consequences, the expert continued, these are certainly image losses: Ukraine can be justifiably accused of not doing what it asks for in seeking justice in other countries.
