European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell plan to visit Kyiv this week. Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva discussed with the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas the expectations from the visit, about which he wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the visit should have not only a symbolic meaning, but also a concrete result.. In particular, on support for Ukraine and sanctions against the Russian Federation.

“We agreed on this with Mr. Ambassador. We are talking about new sanctions that will have a real and instant impact on Russia.; significant financial support, including through the Solidarity Trust Fund; much-needed humanitarian aid,” Zhovkva explained.

He also stressed that the accelerated procedure for Ukraine's accession to the European Union remains an equally important issue..

“After all, the “several months” taken by the European Commission to prepare the Conclusion on Ukraine’s compliance with the Copenhagen criteria will soon expire. We are waiting for a quick and concrete result here too,” Zhovkva said..
