Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the Law on the Defense of the Motherland, the press service of the politician reports..

The law consists of more than 820 articles on 450 pages. It involves, in particular, an increase in the defense budget to 3% of GDP as early as 2023, the introduction of a program for the development of the Armed Forces, the strengthening of research work in the field of defense, the creation of a fund to support the Armed Forces under the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.

The law itself does not indicate the future number of military personnel in the renewed Polish army, but, as the specialized Polish publication Defence24 notes, according to the draft program for the development of the Armed Forces mentioned in the law, the number of Polish military personnel will increase to 300 thousand.

According to Duda, the new law was developed a few months before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, because even then there was a big threat of the outbreak of war and it was necessary to take preventive actions..

"

Duda also recalled the words of the previous President of Poland, Lech Kaczynski: “You can’t save on the army. We have great allies, but we also need to be able to defend ourselves."
