Russia is withdrawing from the Council of Europe, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Twitter.
“The EU and NATO continue the line of destroying the Council of Europe. Russia will not participate in turning the oldest European organization into another platform for incantations about Western superiority. Let them enjoy communicating with each other without Russia,” the message says..
After leaving the Council of Europe, Russians will not be able to apply to the European Court of Human Rights, said Russian Senator Andrey Klishas.

Recall, on February 25, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to suspend Russia's membership in the Committee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian Federation remained a member of the Council of Europe and a party to the relevant conventions of the Council of Europe, including the European Convention on Human Rights.
