The European Union should not tighten restrictive measures against Russia. France and Germany insist on this, the German Welt writes, citing a source in the EU apparatus. On Tuesday, November 27, an emergency meeting of the EU Political and Security Committee took place in Brussels, at which the situation following the incident with the Ukrainian warships in the Kerch Strait was discussed in private.. Representatives of Berlin and Paris insisted: now it is especially important to take "confidence building measures", reports RIA Novosti. Sanctions to such measures, even if imposed on other occasions, have nothing to do, while France and Germany offered their services as mediators to resolve the situation and pointed out the key role of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The situation in the Kerch Strait aggravated after, on Sunday, November 25, the Ukrainian Navy ships carrying military weapons on board illegally crossed the Russian border on the way from the Black Sea to the Sea of ??Azov. They did not respond to the demand of the Russian border guards. As a result of the FSB military operation, the vessels were stopped and transferred to the port of Kerch. Kiev accused Moscow of an act of aggression and introduced martial law in the border regions of the country.
