Lithuania may withdraw from Interpol if the representative of Russia is elected as its leader. The corresponding resolution on Tuesday, November 20, was adopted by the Sejm of the Republic. Deputies called on other states to follow their example. “If Prokopchuk is elected head of Interpol, then Lithuania, together with other democratic countries, should immediately consider the possibility of leaving the organization,” Delfi quotes from the document.. Earlier in Ukraine, they ultimately declared that they would leave the organization if it was headed by a Russian.

And in the United States, several senators wrote a petition calling for President Donald Trump to prevent Alexander Prokopchuk from being elected head of Interpol.. Election of the new head of the organization was required after the former head of Meng Hongwei was arrested in China on corruption charges. Voting will take place on November 21. According to the Financial Times, there are two candidates: Major General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Head of the Interpol National Bureau Alexander Prokopchuk and Vice President of the Organization Kim Chongchang from South Korea.
