Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has chided his American counterpart Mike Pompeo in connection with the arrest of Russian woman Maria Butina. This happened during a telephone conversation, initiated by the State Department. According to Lavrov, the situation in the world "requires joint efforts" of the two countries "in overcoming common challenges and threats, which is hindered by the continuing destructive line in Washington to undermine relations between Russia and the United States," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.. He urged "to immediately stop the persecution under a far-fetched pretext" detained in the States by Russian woman Maria Butina, and again reminded of pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko and businessman Viktor Bout and other compatriots who were "in US prisons in violation of the procedures envisaged by the bilateral Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters of 1999 ". Pompeo here for some reason mentioned the condemned in Russia for terrorism by far not US citizens Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov. To which Lavrov gave "appropriate explanations".

Probably, he just told the American what he got his 20-year term in the colony of strict regime Ukrainian.

In addition, foreign ministers discussed other topical international issues, including the situation in Syria.

Earlier today in Geneva, nearly five hours was the meeting of the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, and the adviser to the US President for National Security, John Bolton. This dialogue ended without the signing of a joint document, since the representative of Washington demanded that it was impossible to impose a text on our recognition of interference in the American elections.
