Kremlin hackers are preparing to disrupt the forthcoming congressional elections in November. The American public was warned about this by vigilant employees of Microsoft Corporation.
According to them, the attackers register false domains to influence the outcome of the vote. "A group of hackers associated with the Russian government created false domains that proved to be a forgery of two American conservative organizations - the Hudson Institute and the International Republican Institute," Microsoft said (cited by Interfax).
According to the company, "three more false domains were created in such a way as to create the impression of their belonging to the US Senate". The software developer no longer brought any details. The company did not specify which addresses fakes were registered. Nobody has tried to enter these sites yet, but Microsoft President Brad Smith has already announced that "this activity is focused mainly on undermining democracy". At the same time, Smith said that he "has no doubt who is responsible". According to him, this is none other than representatives of the hacking group Strontium, also known as Fancy Bear or APT2. Accusations from the corporation can hardly be taken seriously. Firstly, it is completely unclear how the presence of a fake site can influence the outcome of a vote in the midterm elections to the legislature. Secondly, with what in Microsoft in general have taken, what behind registration of false domains there are "hackers connected with the Russian government"? Far from the fact that fakes are created by hackers from Strontium.
And even more so it is not proved that this group has anything to do with our country. On the links Fancy Bear with the Chief Intelligence of Russia insists special prosecutor Robert Muller, who is investigating the "Russian trace" in the presidential election of 2016. But he did not present any evidence of links between hackers and the Kremlin. In the US, it seems, fewer people believe the stories of intelligence agencies about the intrigues of Russian hackers. This theory was the object of numerous jokes.
One of the regional politicians, the candidate for the post of the Governor of the State of Pennsylvania from the Republican Party, Scott Wagner, at a speech in Wyoming joked that the Kremlin would help him win elections in November. "By the way, the Russians will help me with Tomo Wolff (the incumbent governor of the state). If I have to use Paul Manafort (former head of Donald Trump's campaign headquarters), I will do so, "- quotes the politician The Huffington Post. The closer the November elections, the more power the US worries about interference from outside. The other day, John Bolton, an adviser to the US president for national security, said that four countries could intervene in the nearest vote, namely Russia, China, Iran and the DPRK. At the moment, the US authorities are taking the necessary steps to prevent this, the official said..
