Michael McFaul, a former US ambassador in Moscow, said that his scientific career had collapsed because he was subject to sanctions from Russia. In an MSNBC interview, McFaul said that he has been a professor for 30 years (now he teaches at Stanford University) and professionally studies Russia.

However, now, according to the former ambassador, he does not dare to come to Russia because of the sanctions imposed on him. "My life has changed in the most dramatic way," McFaul confessed. He explained that because of his inability to travel to Russia his academic studies were damaged and added that even if he was struck off the sanctions list, he would not be able to return to Russia. Michael McFaul was the ambassador in Moscow from 2012 to 2014, he is widely in demand in the United States as an expert on Russian issues, recalls the TV channel "360".
