Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the system of formation of the United Nations Security Council unfair and called for its transformation. He stated this at a pre-election rally in Istanbul, Anadolu agency reported on Friday, June 15. "The fate of the world community can not be in the hands of five permanent members of the Security Council," said the Turkish leader. In his opinion, all states should participate in the work of the structure. Erdogan believes that the problems in the activities of the UN do not allow the world organization to deal with pressing issues, including resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the security situation in the Middle East as a whole. At the beginning of this May, the President of Turkey has already called for the reform of the Security Council. Then he accused the international community of hypocrisy, and international organizations in duplicity. In April of this year, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres himself acknowledged the structural problems of the Security Council.

He noted that the body no longer reflects the balance of power in the world and does not correspond to modern realities. The permanent members of the UN Security Council are Russia, the United States, Britain, China and France. They have the right of veto. In addition to these countries, there are also 10 non-permanent participants, who are elected for a two-year term of five each year. From June 1, the presidency of the UN Security Council for a month passed to Russia.
