The British authorities can ask the owner of the London Chelsea football club Roman Abramovich to reveal the origin of his fortune.

This was reported at once by two editions of The Guardian and The Telegraph.

Such a requirement may be put forward to obtain a British visa for a Russian. The Guardian newspaper notes that if, at the time the visa expired, Abramovich was in the UK, he would not have been subjected to such strict scrutiny.

The representative of the British Prime Minister said that the conditions for obtaining a visa type Tier 1 were changed in 2014 - 2015, so that the authorities could refuse, in case there are suspicions of the lawfulness of the applicant's receipt of funds. According to The Telegraph, Abramovich's application is pending.
