Several tens of demonstrators who broke into the building of the Yerevan City Hall are trying to break through to the office of the capital's mayor, Taron Markaryan. Participants protesting against the cutting down of trees in the reconstructed park, require the resignation of the mayor. The vice-mayor of the city David Ohanyan tried unsuccessfully to set up a dialogue with the demonstrators. "We came to interfere with your work," the agency Sputnik Armenia quotes one of the activists. Protesters accuse the mayor of the unaccountability of his administration's activities to citizens.

"Your job is robbery," one activist said in response to a question from the vice mayor about the reasons for the action. Member of the Council of Elders of Yerevan Alain Simonyan also joined the demonstrators. He supports the view that the mayor is obliged to resign. Simonyan believes that when a political team is replaced, all its high-ranking officials. "The mayor must make his own choice, not only at the request of the people," he said.. In addition, the elder is sure that the residents of Yerevan should take part in the discussion of projects for the improvement of the city.
