The capital of Armenia is again very worried. Mass protests against the election of former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan as Prime Minister. On the morning of Monday, April 23, demonstrators gathered in simultaneously in different districts of Yerevan, including on Bagramyan Avenue, Orbeli Street, in the district of Ajapnyak, RIA Novosti reports.. A large group of protesters blocked traffic at the crossroads of Koryun and Teryan streets. Students of Yerevan State University gathered at the entrance to the main building of the university and urged teachers to join the protests. On the streets of Yerevan are thousands and thousands of citizens. And this despite the fact that the demonstrators were left without leaders - many activists were arrested, including three members of the Armenian parliament from the opposition block "Exit" - the leader of the initiative "My step", the head of the "Civil Contract" party Nikol Pashinyan, his associates Ararat Mirzoyan and Sasun Mikaelyan. After their detention on Sunday, the demands of immediate release of oppositionists were added to the slogans of the demonstrators, according to "Armenian News". In total during the protests detained more than 270 people. In response, government forces took to the streets military equipment. In particular, armored personnel carriers protect the parliament building, the "Russian Dialogue".

Street speeches against the appointment of Sargsyan as head of government began on April 13. The activists do not like the fact that the ex-president again becomes the head of the country, since according to the legislative changes, since April 9, Armenia is in fact governed by the prime minister, to whose office the parliament elected Sargsyan. The opposition says that when he was president, he worked ineffectively and brought Armenia to the economic crisis. Serzh Sargsyan was the President of Armenia for 10 years - from 2008 to 2018.
